Oh gosh, why why why is sacrasm/irony so hard to get? It’s really embarrassing, people -.-
How on earth do you think he’s serious, when he says that it’s despicable to let children play however they feel like. Seriously?!
It’s fun! F-U-N! Please open up your minds just a little bit or go away. I love my country and my people but sometimes it gets ridiculously awkward.

John, I love this blog and I ordered your book and looking forward for some new entries.

im an american that has never been to germany btw. my closest friend is german/american. his mom is german, dad american. he and his family tell me everything about germany including most of things said in the blog. im not here to make any sarcastic/ironic remarks towards the germans or americans in here……

however,
i do agree with the “german way of life” opposed to our “free country”. if parents in germany let their kids do whatever they want from the time they turn 13 then that is their choice. Nobody can say that what they are doing is wrong just because it sounds moraly incorrect to us americans. just look at the statistics that rate a countries quality. crime rate, drug abuse and etc. germany KILLS america when it comes to that. so as far as i know, we are the ones who are doing everything wrong.

even though i have never been, i LOVE germans and their country. ilove it so much that i will be visiting there this weekend yep, my flight leaves this saturday, a 17 hour flight sounds horrible though.

i will be there for 3 weeks and i am staying in saarland.. that is south germany from what i understand. i honestly hope that germany is everything people have described. i have heard a few people say that germany is now “americanized”. i really hope this is not true, im looking forward to being around people that have a different culture than me.

Well move to freaking Germany if you don’t like it here or your parents, but wait until you are 18. You are in your parents home and are a child until the law says you are not. Your parents should not abuse you, but it sounds like you need an azz spanking (in the right way, of course.)

Ha yes, I guess you can indeed call Germany quite liberal - and even liberal in the “leftist” sense familiar to Americans as Germany, especially the big cities, are indeed very left-leaning compared to the US average (although admittedly, parts of the US such as the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, California, New England or South Florida are clearly more European in their outlook than the rest of the country) - even though Germans may sometimes make it appear differently.

hello

im a 17 yrs old german kid and i drink alot, smoke quite oftenly and do that almost every week.

My parents dont seem to have a problem with that. Legal drinking age in Germany is 16, but you can only buy drinks with a certain percentage of alcohol until you turn 18. You are also officialy allowed to have sex, if you are 14.

Swear words and nudity on Television are normal, noone has a problem with it, neither do i because in Germany, everyone is free enough to do or say anything they want.

By the way, we germans kind of snear about the too preventive way the americans treat their kids with, censor naked body parts and swear words, but also say everyone in their country is free enough to do anything they want.

Excuse me, if you think my english isnt good, but dont forget, im just 17 and english is not my native language. I myself think im quite well educated (i also speak french) even though im a regular drinker.

So, nachdem ich es gelesen habe und seit drei Jahren in den USA lebe, konnte ich nur lachen. USA und kein Sex. Tut mir leid, die meisten haben ihre Baby Shower mit 16 oder 17 Jahren hier, da sie niemand aufklaert und alles immer schoen totgeschwiegen wird. Zum anderen da vor kurzen ein Junge im Alter von 8 Jahren unter den Rock meiner Tochter schauen wollte. Wer hat es denn jetzt hier mit der Doppelmoral? Ich finde es besser offen mit Kindern ueber Sex zu reden und diese auch aufzuklaeren und vorzubeugen, als dann nachhinein das boese Geschehen zu haben.
Zum Alkohol wirklich Kinder in den USA trinken nicht? Mmmhhh da hab ich aber etwas anderes von meinen Mann mitbekommen. Die Kinder trinken hier genauso wie in Deutschland auch. Nur hier in den USA besorgt man sich noch einen gefaelschten Ausweis, damit man was kriegt. Rauchen? Ja, hier ist es nur Marijuana was geraucht wird hinter der Schule.
Somit finde ich amerikanische Eltern sind eigentlich schlimmer als deutsche. Was soll denn ein Teenager lernen, wenn ihm alles verboten wird? Und ist es nicht so, dass das Verboten immer mehr reizt?!

Also ich bin 13 Jahre alt. ich trinke auch das ein oder andere mal mit Freunden Alkohol. Ich rauche allerdings nicht (außer ab und zu Shisha). Allerdings wissen meine Eltern davon nichts und wenn sie es wüssten würde sie es mir auch 100% verbieten. Ja, einige meiner Freunde hatten auch schon Sex, aber auch davon wissen die Eltern nichts. Meine Eltern arbeiten beide, und meistens auch Nachmittags, von daher bekommen sie meistens nciht mit, was ich den ganzen Tag. Ich hatte auch schon 2 feste Freundeund hab schon verschiedenste Jungs keküsst. Aber das ist ja auch normal. Und in den US-amerkanischen Fernsehserien ist das doch meistens genauso. Ich geh jetzt in die 8te Klasse aufs Gymnasium und vlt ist es auch so, dass ich ab und zu mich nicht so benehme, wie ich es solte xD , also bzw. dass ich mich über andere Menschen einfach lustig machen & so. Aber so bin ich eig nur, wenn ich mit meinen Freunden unterwegs bin, sonst nicht und ich kann auch wirklich super nett sein. Aber ich glaube mal, dass die ameriaknischen Jugendlichen auch ein bisschen rumpöbeln und so… von daher ^^

i’m german, i’m fourteen years old, and I must say this article is true.
but its fun growing up in a liberated country
everyone has to make his own experience, I guess..
but drinking, smoking weed or cigarettes, reading bravo magazine (we even start at the age of about 9 years to be honest xD) will never be as much fun as now when you young..

Genau…und was denken Deutsche über US Fernsehen? “[bad word]” und “schlimme” Körperteile werden ausgeblendet aber den Genickschuss gibts in Grossaufnahme.
In diesem Zusammenhang auch interessant: US Teenager wissen zwar nicht vom Fernsehen wie diese schlimmen Dinge aussehen und vielleicht wissen sie deshalb auch nicht, dass es in Deutschland bereits “Sex” genannt wird wenn man daran lutscht und auch nicht, dass diese schrecklichen, schlimmen, unausprechlichen von gott-nicht-gewollten Teile des Körpers bereits vor der Eheschliessung bei unsachgemässem Gebrauch zur Schwangerschaft führen. Die Statistik weist jedenfalls in diese Richtung
