Awesome article. I guess I'm a year late, but I am also one of the zillions of people who have not heard about Mr. Reiman yet. So I googled and looked at the website and some YouTube videos.

I am floored. This guy actually makes money! I have won the Green Card 10 years ago and with the current economy I'm struggling. I'm happy for them, but PLEASE do not make the Germans believe that ALL America is like "Littel Konny Land". According to Mr. Reiman there are no building codes (Bauvorschriften) and that he can do on his land what he wants where he wants. Ouch... I hope OSHA doesn't listen to his German interviews.

And... PLEASE ... do not meddle with TX BBQ. OMG. This is ridiculous.

However, with all its stupidity, he does bring a lot of interest to TX and tourism as well. I'm glad for the family, because they did have a huge advantage with the income from the series. I know... because I didn't. I had a really good paying job in Germany, but had to start from scratch here flipping burgers.

I just hope he will stop the "Deutschland-fuer-dumm-verkaufen" parts. It's embarrasing for Germany and even more embarrasing for TX (yes, I'm offended. I'm Texan by heart now. My kids where born here).

Howdy from the Hill Country.

Nope, no Aldi in Canada yet...unless maybe in some obscure little place in the East like Labrador or NB.

Not really sure why we'd need Aldi here in the first place. Personally I prefer supermarkets with aisles big enough so two shopping carts can pass each other.

German discount markets are awesome! Go spread all over the world Aldi, Lidl and alike, so I can get cheap, drinkable beer all over the world. <3

Thanks for the clarification- it seems that Aldi tries to blend their selection with the local market. Sort of a bummer really as I preferred Aldi to Lidl when we lived in Germany. I was so disappointed when we went to our first and last Aldi here in the UK!

@Lizz, I think I have heard that Aldi is already in Canada, but it doesn't show up on their webpage. So I can't help, sorry.

@kitty-kat, Aldi in America sells mostly American products with a few German looking products sold as brands you have never heard of. So it feels kinda Germanesque.

Does Aldi in the US have the same things as Aldi in Germany? Here in England we have both Aldi and Lidl- but Aldi has mostly british stuff for sale, whereas the Lidl is like having a "little bit of Germany"- 95% is the exact same thing you would find in Germany, including some items that they haven't even bothered translating into English!

Please please please... MTV go find Konny and start filming now! If America can watch and 'love' The Simple Life with Paris and Nicole, or 'I Love New York', or even 'The Hills'... I am pretty certain that there is an audience who are going to adore Konny! I think it is fascinating to see your own country and culture through the eyes of a foreigner... I want to see Konny Island on US TV.

As for Aldi, yeah, the bare, no frills side of the store can cut down on the enjoyment factor in shopping... but come on, it is SO CHEAP! You just can't complain about atmosphere when you come away with bags and bags of groceries for under 50bucks!!
